Fishers are fierce, predatory members of the weasel family that live throughout Canada and parts of California, Wisconsin, Michigan, and parts of the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest. They are closely related to martens and are considered the largest of the marten genus.
Despite their name, they rarely eat fish and are not related to cats. Fishers eat a wide variety of prey, including porcupines. Fishers are also known to attack domestic poultry and pets, and they are considered a pest in some areas. They prefer to live in thick forests and are most energetic during the day. Their breeding season is in early spring, and females give birth the following year in late winter.
