To fixed scratched glasses, clean them with water and dish soap, and remove a scratched lens coating with sunscreen. For deeper scratches, buff out the scratches with a paste of baking soda and water or a nonabrasive toothpaste. Use a four-way nail buffer to remove scratches on a frame.
- Clean the lenses
Use a microfiber cloth with dish soap to clean the glasses. Sometimes, glasses just need to be cleaned, and only have the appearance of being scratched.
- Remove the coating
If a thorough cleaning does not help, apply sunscreen to remove any coating on the polycarbonate lenses. Rub the lenses with the sunscreen on a cotton rag. Reapply the sunscreen, and polish until the coating is removed.
- Buff away deep scratches
If the scratches are deeper than the coating, or the lenses are made of glass, use a soft cotton cloth to apply a nonabrasive toothpaste or a thick paste made of baking soda and water. Car wax can also be used to buff away scratches. Repeat the buffing process until the scratches are removed.
- Renew the frame
If the eyeglass frames are made of acetate, use a four-way nail buffer to smooth the scratches. Start on the coarsest side, and move towards the smoothest side, working in a circular motion.
