Folic acid and other B vitamins may help peripheral neuropathy, including neuropathy of the feet, according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Vitamin B deficiency is one of the causes of peripheral neuropathy.
Peripheral neuropathy is damage to nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, states the American Society of Clinical Oncology. The symptoms include burning, tingling, a buzzing sensation and numbness; they usually begin in the fingers and toes and move up along the arms and legs as the condition worsens. B vitamins such as folic acid cannot prevent neuropathy from causes such as chemotherapy, tumors pressing on a nerve or diabetes, but they may help manage the condition.
