What can you do with antique salt dishes?

Use antique salt bowls to store your jewelry, such as earrings and rings. You can also use them on a desk for holding small items such as paper clips, stamps and coins, or around the house to display decorative items and create centerpieces.
Salt dishes were once part of a traditional place setting and were often made of porcelain, pewter, silver or glass. These dishes started to become obsolete around 1914, when the Morton Salt Company developed a salt product that was not as affected by its environment as open salt, which often caked and did not pour when it was damp.
