Can you drink cooking wine and get drunk?

Because cooking wine has the same alcohol by volume, or ABV, as a traditional wine, it is possible to get drunk from drinking it. For example, a typical cooking wine has an ABV of 17, which equates to 34 proof, and is roughly equivalent to that of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Cooking wine is not for general consumption. However, because cooking wine has a similar ABV to red or white wine, it is an issue for stores that sell the product. It is possible for underage drinkers to purchase cooking wine without having to supply identification at the checkout register. Cooking wine is generally similar to standard wine, except that is has a very large amount of sodium.
