A Cronut is a pastry that is a hybrid of a donut and a croissant. It was created by Dominique Ansel and was first launched on May 10, 2013.
The Cronut is an internationally registered trademark of the Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City. Cronuts are prepared using a laminated dough that is first proofed, then fried in grapeseed oil at a specific temperature. A cooked Cronut is finished by being rolled in sugar, filled with cream and topped with a glaze. The Cronut became a huge success following its introduction, resulting in imitations by bakeries around the world.
