Gardeners can plant spaghetti squash in the spring after the last chance of frost is gone in hills that are about three-feet apart. The squash should be allowed to ripen until they start to turn color in the fall.
Summer squash are a wonderful addition to a fall garden. They can be prepared in many different ways and are very easy to grow.
Plant in Spring
Prepare 12 inch deep planting hills leaving 5 to 6 feet between hills. Combine dirt with manure and organic fertilizer. Plant six seeds per hill. When seeds germinate, in about 10 days, thin to three plants per hill.Watch for Problems
While the plants are growing, watch for powder mildew resistance and treat with one pint milk combined with six parts water. In addition, watch for bugs and squash them.
Harvest
Harvest squash in fall when they begin to turn colors. At this point, the vines should be dying back.
