How long does it take to perk coffee on top of the stove?

Coffee from a stove-top percolator takes around five minutes to perk. This is after the water in the percolator has warmed to the point of perking the coffee.

Coffee percolators that work on the stove have been around for a long time, but have largely been replaced by drip brewers and quicker methods of making coffee. One tablespoon of coarse ground coffee per 8 ounces of water are used for percolation. The amount of time needed to perk coffee depends on how quickly water goes from cold to perking in the glass globe at the top of the pot. The water should be warmed slowly, then lowered once percolating starts.
