After identifying the narrow end of the cork, insert that end into the neck of the bottle in a slow, twisting fashion. Opened bottles of wine should be refrigerated to minimize further oxidation.
- Observe the cork shape
The cork is flared so that the larger end extends from the bottle and seals it. The larger end should rest in the palm of your hand so that the narrow end is ready to be inserted.
- Insert the cork
Holding the wine bottle in one hand and the cork in the other, insert the narrow end into the neck while slowly twisting it. Moistening the cork slightly may make insertion easier.
- Refrigerate the bottle
Refrigeration reduces the continuing oxidation of the wine, which starts when the bottle is opened and air reacts with the wine.
