Foods such as fried foods, fatty red meats, whole milk products and highly processed foods, such as pies, cookies and doughnuts, should be limited, states WebMD. These foods may trigger the release of more bile than other foods, causing the gallbladder to contract more often.

While diet does play a role in gallbladder health, diet does not directly cause gallbladder problems or cure them, according to WebMD. However, avoiding foods such as those high in saturated fats and refined carbohydrates, along with eating better and losing weight, may help with symptoms.

If a person is experiencing gallbladder problems, it may be because the gallbladder is contracting around a gallstone that is already there, states WebMD.

In general, keeping a healthy weight is one of the more important factors in preventing the formation of gallstones, as stated by WebMD. If a person is overweight, he should aim to lose around 1 or 2 pounds a week under the supervision of a doctor, as there is a reported link between quick weight loss and the development of gallstones. Following a diet that is high in fiber and moderate in calories may be beneficial to a person with gallbladder symptoms. Eating foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grains are not only good for the gallbladder, but they are good for the whole body
