Fostering rates vary significantly by state, with extra money provided for children with special needs. Foster parents in Rhode Island receive a different amount than those in Wisconsin, receiving an average of $729.39 per month to provide for the foster child. States can provide the money in the form of subsidies, direct payments and reimbursements.
