There is no single founder who is credited with the founding of Hinduism. The origins of the religion can be traced as far as the Indus Valley Civilization that lasted between 3,000 BCE and 1,000 BCE. Traditionally, Hinduism holds the stance that its traditions have always been in existence.
There are multiple major and minor sects that associate themselves with the Hindu religion. Each of these sects' beliefs are dictated by the sacred texts of "Sanatana Dharma," which translates to English as "The Eternal Teaching." According to estimates made in 2012, Hinduism is the majority religion in India with approximately 960 million followers.
