How is the front end of a Chevy typically designed?

Chevrolet front end designs as of 2016 emphasize aerodynamic features, such as rounded corners and actively controlled shutters, while integrating key brand elements such as the Chevrolet bowtie or the aggressive grille design of the Camaro. Chevrolet refers to this design language as "Design with a Heartbeat" in promotional materials.

Improving fuel efficiency through efficient aerodynamics is one of the primary drivers of modern Chevrolet front end design. This is largely due to consumer desire for more efficient vehicles and pressure to meet government mandates regarding overall fuel economy for all of a manufacturer's vehicles. These concerns are particularly emphasized on electric or hybrid vehicles such as the Chevrolet Volt, where increasing the all-electric range of these cars makes them more attractive to ecologically conscious consumers. Chevrolet engineers estimate that the combination of rounded corners, active shutters and a flush front fascia on the front end of the Volt adds as many as 8 miles of all-electric range.

While aerodynamics and efficiency are a chief concern in Chevrolet front end design, maintaining a strong brand identity is also a consideration. Many new Chevrolet vehicles incorporate elements of the C7 Corvette into their exterior design to echo the distinctive features of Chevrolet's halo car. For example, the sense of tautness of the Corvette's hood line is one of the design language features Chevrolet incorporates into more mass-market cars such as the Cruze and Volt.
