What is full body painting?

Full body painting is the act of covering the human body with painted designs. The first modern instance of full body painting was in 1933, when Max Factor included a naked and fully painted model in his display in the World Fair in Chicago.

Body painting is present in the history of many cultures throughout the world. Tribes from all continents have records of body painting in their heritage. By using natural oils and pigments, ancient civilizations covered their bodies with patterns and designs to commemorate events such as weddings, funerals, rites of passage and preparations for war. Henna tattoos are a modern representation of these practices.
