According to Drugs.com, gabapentin is used to treat nerve pain associated with herpes virus or shingles in adults. The Horizant brand of this drug also treats restless leg syndrome, and the Neurontin brand of gabapentin treats seizures in adults and children over 3 years old.
WebMD notes that common side effects from taking gabapentin include loss of coordination, blurred or double vision, dizziness, fatigue, unusual eye movements or tremors. Not all individuals who use this drug experience these serious side effects. This drug can pass into breast milk and cause harm to a nursing baby. However, Drugs.com states that whether using gabapentin causes harm to an unborn baby during pregnancy is uncertain.
