What is garage door bracing?

Garage door bracing involves reinforcing a garage door at its weakest points by installing horizontal or vertical bracing onto each door panel with light-gauge metal girds or wood bolted to the door. Bracing a garage door gives it additional strength to withstand hurricane winds and storms.

Garage door bracing prevents hurricane winds from sucking out or blowing in garage doors and wrecking the home. Metal brackets are attached to door hinges to keep them in place, while braces are anchored into the garage floor and to the wall above the door. Heavier brackets, hinges and stronger vertical supports provide greater reinforcement to garage door tracks, springs and panels.
