Are gardenias an indoor or outdoor plant?

Gardenias can be grown as either an indoor plant or an outdoor plant, depending upon location. Gardenias prefer to grow in zones 8 to 10. In zones outside these locations, growing them in pots and bringing them indoors is a viable option.
Gardenias can be planted outdoors where the temperature is between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Where the weather is not as conducive, they can be grown in pots indoors.
Gardenias are a flowering shrub that can grow from 8 to 20 feet high and 10 feet wide. They produce a highly fragrant white flower in the fall, spring and summer. During the winter, the evergreen foliage is a glossy green.
