Gazelles are herbivores and eat a variety of leaves and plants. Gazelles are natural grazers and tend to eat whatever can be found in their habitat. There are 19 species of gazelles, found in Africa and Asia, and the most commonly recognized is the Thomson's gazelle of the African grasslands.
Like most other herbivores, gazelles are prey animals, meaning they are fairly low on the food chain and use their speed as their main defense mechanism. Some species of gazelle can run up to 40 miles an hour. Gazelles are herd animals and can live in groups as small as 10 or as large as several hundred.
