Why does my GE dryer squeak?

GE dryers sometimes squeak for a few seconds after they start up. If the dryer is not level or on a secure floor or if something is leaning on the dryer, it may also make squeaking sounds.

Loose screws in the dryer cabinet also can cause a squeak, as can foreign objects below the lint filter. Other noises a GE dryer can make include a scraping noise when the drum rotates; this can be caused by worn drum slides or foreign objects in the drum's front seal. A damaged belt sometimes makes a thumping sound. If obvious problems are corrected and a squeaking sound continues, GE recommends contacting customer service.
