The general distance rules for the game of horseshoes states that the court should be 6 feet by 46 feet. There should be a 2-foot buffer on each side.
The court should have a 6-foot-by-6-foot pitcher's box, and the pit in which the shoes are throw should not measure more than 72 inches in length and 36 inches in width. If there are sideboards lining the pit, they should be under 7 inches tall. The stakes used in a horseshoe court should measure 1 inch in diameter and be made from iron, cold-rolled steel, approved synthetic material or soft metal. The top of the stake should sit between 14 and 15 inches from the ground.
