What is the generic name for Percocet?

Percocet contains two drugs, the generic names of which are acetaminophen and oxycodone, according to Drugs.com. The same drug combination is available under the brand names Endocet, Primley, Roxicet and Xartemis XR.

Percocet is a prescription-only medication. Drugs.com states that acetaminophen is a pain reliever of relatively limited potency, but it increases the effects of the opioid narcotic oxycodone when taken in combination. Acetaminophen is potentially hepatoxic and can lead to fatal liver failure when taken in large enough quantities. Oxycodone, like other opioid agonists of the morphine type, is sought after for criminal recreational use and poses a risk of misuse and addiction.
