Geneva is located in southwest Switzerland, near the French border, at the western end of Lake Geneva. It is the second-largest Swiss city after Zurich. Geneva covers an area of just over 6 square miles with a population of 191,964 individuals as of 2011.
Over 40 percent of Geneva's population comes from outside Switzerland, making it Europe's most international city. French is the most commonly spoken language in Geneva. The city is known for its watches and its car fair, which is held in March annually. Many international organizations are headquartered in Geneva, including the European headquarters of the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum.
