Does Georgia law allow posting of mug shots online?

In 2014, a bill preventing the publication of mugshots online to websites that assess fees for their removal was ratified by Georgia Governor Brian Strickland. Requests for mugshots now require acknowledgment from the requesting party that the photo will not be used for profit.

Although they may not be obtained for the purpose of sale, mugshots are still a matter of public record in Georgia, which means they can be obtained and published by journalistic mediums for reporting purposes. It is also still legal for law enforcement officials and public agencies to use mugshots in communicating critical information to the public as a matter of public safety.
