The Gherkin building, which is also known as 30 St. Mary Axe, is a skyscraper in London that serves as an office building. Companies like Swiss Re and Sky News have had offices within the building.
The skyscraper known as the Gherkin received its nickname because of its pickle-like shape. In 2014, a billionaire by the name of Joseph Safra agreed to purchase the building through his firm, Safra. It is estimated that the building was purchased for approximately 700 million pounds.
The Gherkin was first opened in 2004. It has 538,000 square feet spread across the 590-foot tall building. At that height, it is the second tallest building in London.
