Spaghetti is a versatile food; pair spaghetti with a piece of steak, a fish fillet or a pork chop. Spaghetti can also be served as a main course. As an appetizer, serve soup or salad matching the flavor profile of the pasta.
Spaghetti is best adorned by a sauce. A classic spaghetti dish is spaghetti and meatballs, which is traditionally served in a red sauce. A white sauce, like Alfredo, is usually accompanied by chicken. A simple spaghetti sauce is made from olive oil, garlic and herbs. This dish is best served on the side of a main course seafood dish.
Prior to serving spaghetti, serve an antipasto tray. These contain a variety of cheeses, crackers or flat bread, cured and pickled meats, vegetables and olives. Bruschetta is a popular antipasto dish.
A simple Caesar salad or a mixed greens salad with caper dressing works well with spaghetti. Adorn the salad with other unconventional things items like nuts, berries and pieces of fruit. Pair spaghetti with a rich tomato, pumpkin or vegetable-based soup.
A healthier alternative to spaghetti is spaghetti squash. Spaghetti squash, when baked, produces thin spaghetti-like noodles that can be added to almost any spaghetti recipe in lieu of pasta. However, even though spaghetti is a healthier alternative, the texture of the squash is different to the pasta and has a sweeter flavor.
