Does Goldschlager have real gold in it?

Goldschlager contains a small amount of 24-karat gold flakes. The flakes float in a hot cinnamon schnapps manufactured in Switzerland. It can be served on its own or mixed in drinks.

Goldschlager is not the only beverage to include novel solids. In Dubai, where drinking alcohol is restricted, a non-alcoholic wine features gold flakes as well. Southeast Asian "snake wine" features snakes, insects and small animals enclosed in the bottles. In Korea, baby mice are submerged in rice wine for a year as a traditional medicine. Mexican mezcal often contains moth larva at the bottom of the bottle as evidence of the drink's alcohol content.
