Is golf considered a sport?

Golf is recognized as a sport by ESPN, Yahoo! and many other reputable sources. According to "Golf Digest," Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Canada, Wales, the United States, Sweden and England contain the highest concentrations of golf courses.

Referred to as the Grand Slam, the four major professional golf events are the Master's, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship, played annually in April, June, July and August, respectfully. As of 2014, Jack Nicklaus boasts more career Major titles than any other golfer, with 18. No player has ever won all four events in the same year. The Ryder Cup is the biggest team event, pitting U.S. golfers against European players every other year.
