What is a good chemical-free tree killer?

Rock salt or vinegar can be used to kill a tree. A combination of both rock salt and vinegar is sometimes used for quicker results. Tree stumps can also be hollowed out and made into a garden planter that rots the stump and kills the tree.

The tree must be cut down to begin. Drill holes into the top of the remaining stump using a 1-inch wood bit. Pack holes with rock salt, repeating several times. Vinegar can be poured around the base of a tree and into drilled holes. When using salt and vinegar it is important to remember that the mixture kills any other vegetation it comes into contact with.
