Some good Thanksgiving side dish recipes are Kraft’s Oven-Roasted Root Vegetables & Apples and Tyler Florence’s Mashed Potatoes. Other good Thanksgiving side dishes are stuffing, sweet potato casserole, cranberry relish, green bean casserole and scalloped potatoes.

To make Kraft’s savory Oven-Roasted Root Vegetables & Apples, preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut 5 peeled carrots lengthwise and then crosswise in half. Place in a large bowl, and add 1 pound peeled and diagonally sliced parsnips. Blend together ¼ cup zesty Italian dressing, 1 teaspoon orange zest and ¼ teaspoon ground red pepper. Drizzle over vegetables, and toss to coat evenly.

Spread onto a rimmed baking sheet coated with cooking spray, and bake for 20 minutes. Cut 2 Gala apples into 8 wedges each. Stir wedges and ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese into the baked vegetables. Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer, until vegetables and apples are tender.

For Tyler Florence’s Mashed Potatoes, peel and cut into quarters 4 pounds of golden creamer potatoes. Put the potatoes in a large pot with 1 bay leaf and 2 tablespoons salt; cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Drain well, and remove the bay leaf.

Meanwhile, heat 2 cups heavy cream and 3 tablespoons unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Process the potatoes through a ricer or food mill into a bowl. Mix in hot cream, and season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Add 2 tablespoons chopped chives.
