What is a good type of carrying case for a fishing rod?

A good fishing rod case, such as a guide case, is durable, lightweight and easy to carry while traveling, according to SporTube. Most guide cases are made out of a rugged polyethylene material that protects the delicate rods inside. For extra convenience, a guide case may also have wheels.
For ice fishers, extra protection is needed when dealing with hard, frozen surfaces. A briefcase-style carrying case with a hard outer shell helps protect rods from hitting the ground and cracking. Also, a case must have protection on the inside, such as foam padding, to prevent the rods from moving around and damaging each other.
