What is Delta Force?

Delta Force is officially known as 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta. It is a U.S. special missions unit with the underlying purpose of killing or capturing high-value targets or dismantling terrorist cells.

Delta Force is highly trained and flexible in terms of missions that it can fulfill, such as hostage rescues, covert missions and providing protective services of senior leaders in war-ravaged countries. Created in 1977 by Colonel Charles Beckwith during the advent of the growing threat of terrorism around the world, the unit falls under the direct control of the Joint Special Operations Command and is also supported by the Army Special Operations Command.
