How long does it take for a speeding ticket to be served?

As 9News.com reports, motorists in Colorado can expect to receive a traffic citation within 90 days of the offence. The question may also refer to the time until one is served after failing to respond to a speeding ticket, which may vary from immediately to never.

In most places speeding tickets are not served per se. It is more often stated that an individual was "cited." Motorists may be cited in-person by a law enforcement officer, which is usually, though not always, done immediately after the alleged offence occurred. The recipient can also be notified through the mail by an electronic traffic citation system of the type employed by many police forces. Motorists will be unable to renew licenses with unpaid speeding tickets outstanding in most locations.
