Gram flour, also known as besan, is a staple ingredient in Southeast Asian countries, including India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gram flour is gluten-free, as well as high in protein, iron, folic acid and dietary fiber. Gram flour can be used for baking breads, creating soups and thickening sauces, especially sauces made with yogurt. Some vegans use gram flour mixed with water as an egg substitute. Gram flour is also used for facials.
