What is a grasshopper's habitat?
By Forinfos - 17/02/2025 - 0 comments
Though some species prefer forests or jungles, most grasshoppers live in dry, open habitats that are grassy or have low plants. Grasshoppers, which are known in some regions as locusts, can be found on every continent except Antarctica.
Though most grasshoppers are solitary insects and only congregate to mate, some migratory species gather in masses that may include millions or billions of individuals. Since a single grasshopper can eat half of its body weight in plants each day, such swarms can do incredible damage. For instance, in 1954, a Kenyan locust swarm ate over 200 square kilometers of wild plants and crops.
