As of September 2014, the most expensive cricket bat that Gray-Nicolls makes is the Legend hand-crafted bat. The bat is made from the top 1 percent of English willow and has a 12-piece cane handle. Many of the world's top batsmen use the Legend bat.

Gray-Nicolls was formed in the 1940s as a result of a merger between H.J. Gray and Sons and L.J. Nicolls. The brand popularity grew as more famous cricketing batsmen legends started using Gray-Nicolls bats, including Wally Hammond, Ted Dexter and Richie Benaud. At one time, the captains of all the five test playing nations were using the bats.
