How do you grow mandevilla flowers?

Mandevilla need proper placement, feeding and pruning to grow. You will need a trellis, well-drained soil, a 10-20-10 fertilizer, a water hose and filtered midday sun. Mandevilla flowers prosper with less than 30 minutes of maintenance on a monthly basis.
- Plant the mandevilla in a good location
Plant mandevilla in a warm location that receives bright, indirect sunlight with good air circulation. The soil should be well-drained and rich in organic matter. Stake a trellis nearby for the plant to climb.
- Water, and feed the plant
Water mandevilla when the soil is dry. Don't allow the vine to remain in standing water. Apply a 10-20-10 fertilizer around the base of the plant every other week during the spring and summer.
- Pinch, and prune the plant
Pinch back the vines at a leaf axis during the spring when the plant is young. This will encourage a fuller vine. Remove any dead vines or vines crossing over others.
- Check for pests
Check the vine for scale, mealybugs, red spider mites and whiteflies. These pests hide out on the underside of leaves. Spray them off with a strong stream of water.
- Protect the vine from cold temperatures
Move the vine indoors when temperatures fall below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the plant in a bright location, keeping it inside until the last frost.
