The ABC program, "The Chew" has featured a number of ham dishes, including a Sangria ham recipe for the holidays. This dish is made with an 8 pound ham, cloves, sugar, pineapple juice and Sangria wine.
Sangria Ham
This recipe is fairly straightforward with only a few ingredients. The addition of Sangria wine is what makes this holiday entree stand apart from other glazed hams.
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 3 hours 40 minutes
Ready in: 4 hours
Ingredients:
- 8 pounds bone-in ham
- 1/4 cup cloves
- 1 pound brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
- 2 1/2 cups Sangria wine
- Orange peel
- Warm the ham
- Prepare the glaze
- Remove and coat the ham
- Add remainder of the wine glaze
Heat the oven to 400 F. Remove the rind from the ham. Score the outside of the ham about 1/4 inch deep. Press cloves into the score mark, about 1/2 inch apart. Rub a thick layer of the brown sugar into the top of the ham. Place in the oven for about 20 minutes.
Mix together the pineapple juice, Sangria wine and orange peel. Allow it to sit for the 20 minutes while the ham is in the oven.
Pour 1 cup of the Sangria glaze over the top of the ham. Put it back in the oven for another 40 minutes. After this time passes, baste the ham with the mixture in the pan and cover with the aluminum foil. Pop it back into the oven for 1 hour.
Pour the last of the Sangria glaze over the ham. Return it to the oven for 1 hour, basting it every 30 minutes with the glaze. Remove the aluminum foil and cook uncovered for 1 final hour at 325 F. Increase basting to every 20 minutes.
