When the Earl Scheib company stopped its national collision repair and repaint operations in 2010, it closed and sold many of its local shops. The company also terminated the leases of stores that it rented.

Earl Scheib began downsizing its operations in 1999. It kept open shops that were mainly located in the western United States, where rust and corrosion occurred less frequently.

When the company closed for good in 2010, it sold its equipment and fixtures to local store managers, as well as the right to use the Earl Scheib name. This action benefited many local managers by giving them the opportunity to become small business owners.
