July 20, 1969 was a historic day in which astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins landed on the moon and became the first humans to accomplish this feat. Armstrong also was the first human to walk on the moon. Apollo 11 was the name of the NASA mission for this lunar landing.
The mission launch was on July 16, 1969, and four days later the lunar module, which was called the "Eagle," made its lunar landing. The lunar landing site was the Sea of Tranquility. The time spent on the moon's surface was approximately 21 hours and 38 minutes. The crew returned to Earth on July 24, 1969.
