In certain situations, a plastic drop cloth should be used while collecting the sample. Plastic gloves should also be worn while gathering a sample for asbestos testing.

A hazmat suit and respirator should always be worn while removing asbestos. All asbestos removal should be completed by a company or individual with proper licensing. To keep asbestos from spreading, the contaminated area's windows, doors, siding and roofing should be sealed off from the rest of the residence or building. Warning signs should also be posted in the area during the entire removal process.
