Arthrosis is another name for one of the most common types of arthritis, osteoarthritis, commonly referred to as OA, notes Healthline. Normal wear and tear on the cartilage and joints causes arthrosis. Arthrosis often involves bone-to-bone contact when the cartilage normally covering the ends of the bones wears away.
Symptoms of OA, which usually occurs in the joints of the hips, knees, neck and hands, cause joint pain, stiffness and tenderness in the affected joints, according to Healthline. OA also causes reduced flexibility, rubbing or grating of bones against one another, and bone spurs, which are small bits of excess bone growth that form around the joints affected by OA.
