The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 31 percent of fatalities from traffic accidents stem from alcohol use. The percent of all vehicle crashes involving alcohol use is unknown, but some studies estimate it is between 5 and 12 percent.
In 2013, 10,076 people died in traffic accidents involving alcohol use on U.S. roadways. This accounts for 31 percent of all vehicular deaths for that year. One study examining evening and night-time drivers found that 11 percent of all crash-involved drivers had blood alcohol content levels of 0.09 or higher, compared to 2 percent of all drivers not involved in crashes.
