Nutritional guidelines call for fat intake of no more than 30 percent of calories for adults and children 2 years old and above, according to Health.gov. In a 2,200-calorie diet, the upper fat-intake limit is 73 grams. Only 24 or fewer grams of fat may come from saturated fat.
Based on these guidelines, a person on a 1,600-calorie-per-day diet should consume no more than 53 grams of fat, with 18 or fewer grams coming from saturated fat, notes Health.gov. Similarly, a person following a 2,000-calorie diet should consume no more than 65 fat grams per day, with 20 or fewer fat grams derived from saturated fat sources.
