What do pictures of shingles skin rash look like?

The shingles rash forms blisters that scab over within 10 days and clear up within four weeks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The rash usually appears in a single stripe around one side of the body or face.

In extreme cases of shingles, the rash observed is similar to the chickenpox rash and is more widespread, covering larger portions of the body, notes the CDC. In rare instances, shingles may affect the eye and even cause loss of vision. Tingling, itching and pain often occurs up to five days before the appearance of the rash. Additional shingles symptoms include fever, headache, upset stomach and chills.
