What does a high immunoglobulin A blood level mean?
By Forinfos - 26/06/2025 - 0 comments
A high level of immunoglobulin A in the blood is indicative of a possible autoimmune disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus, according to WebMD. High IgA levels are also associated with liver diseases, such as chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis, and multiple myeloma.
IgA immunoglobulins protect body surfaces that are exposed to the environment and therefore to foreign organisms. Immunoglobulin A is present in the nose and exposed airways, digestive tract, eyes, ears and vagina, as well as in body fluids, such as saliva, tears and blood, explains WebMD. The normal range for blood levels of IgA is 60 to 400 milligrams per deciliter.
