In the United States, the NFL is the highest grossing professional sports league as of 2014. In 2011, the NFL teams had a combined annual revenue of $3.8 billion just in contracts for broadcasting the season's games. The NFL also averages $9 billion in revenue.

A 2011 Forbes ranking of the most valuable sports teams in the world saw all 32 NFL teams making the list. The Dallas Cowboys were the NFL team with the highest value in 2011, with a worth of $1.81 billion. However, the Manchester United, a soccer team with the English Premier League, was valued slightly higher, at $1.86 billion.
