America's five best cities for retirement are Mesa, Arizona; Arlington, Virginia; Prescott, Arizona; Tucson, Arizona; and Des Moines, Iowa, according to Bankrate. WalletHub's pick for the best city in which to retire is Tampa, Florida, followed by Scottsdale, Arizona; Boise, Idaho; and Cape Coral, Florida.

Cape Coral also ranks eighth on Bankrate's list, making it the only city to appear among both publications' top ten picks. Bankrate praised the city for its low crime rate, sunny weather and variety of activities, including boating, fishing and golfing.

Mesa was Bankrate's top pick because of the city's high score on surveys of overall well-being, a low cost of living and a good climate. Bankrate also praised the trendy neighboring city of Scottsdale, which ranked second on WalletHub's list.
