Patients with osteoporosis benefit from hip exercises that strengthen the muscles in the back and hips, such as prone leg lifts and hip abductor movements, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation. These exercises improve balance and stretch out hip abductors.

Osteoporosis patients also benefit from weight bearing exercises such as walking, which encourages a patient to stay upright while working against gravity, suggests WebMD.

No single exercise regimen fits all osteoporosis patients, warns WebMD. Each individual should consult a medical professional, who can help tailor exercises that take into account the patient's range of motion, muscle strength and fracture risk.
