The ancient Egyptians drank beer, water, milk and wine. Another popular drink in ancient Egypt was nedjem, an alcoholic beverage made from the fruit of the carob tree.
Beer was the main drink of the lower class, whereas the upper class drank both beer and wine. Beer was part of the regular meals, and many workers received beer together with bread, vegetables and oil from their employers. The ancient Egyptians brewed beer from barley, using a method that is still in use in countries like Sudan, although there were some beers that were brewed with emmer wheat as well. They drank milk from cattle, sheep and goats.
