Jerry Yang and David Filo are the founders of Yahoo! Inc. They developed Yahoo! while they were both doctoral candidates at Stanford University. Yahoo started as "David and Jerry's Guide to the Web," an attempt to organize the new and unorganized World Wide Web, but the two re-dubbed it "Yahoo!" in the summer of 1994.
By the end of 1994, Yahoo! was getting over 170,000 visitors a day. Stanford asked the pair to move it off of their computer system, so they contacted Tim Brady to devise a prospectus to present to potential investors. Mike Moritz of Sequoia Capital invested $1 million in the project and Yahoo! was officially born. As of 2014, Alexa rates Yahoo! as the number four site in the world.
